ID&A

As remote control systems for the integrated water cycle grow more sophisticated, managing large-scale infrastructures has become increasingly complex. The legacy SCADA systems in use at ID&A were powerful but far from user-friendly.
Older interfaces forced users to adapt to the software, rather than the other way around. Inconsistent layouts, unclear hierarchies, and outdated visual languages made daily operations more frustrating than they needed to be.
This project focused on redesigning the interface, interactions, and overall experience of a SCADA platform used by control room operators and on-site technicians. By placing user needs at the center, we aimed to create a system that was more intuitive and efficient, while also being scalable and adaptable to the evolving needs of utility management.

We kicked-off the project with an immersion phase, delving into the world of water management systems and engaging directly with utility managers/analysts, SCADA developers, control room operators, and field technicians. Through interviews, workshops, and on-site observation sessions, we could map their workflows and software experience in depth, identifying the specific needs, pain points, and opportunities associated with each user group.

For the visual redesign, we adopted a modern and neutral language, designed to enable each company using the platform to easily customize the interface according to its own branding and operational requirements.

Following a user-centered approach, we were able to redesign the software experience together with the people who have been using it daily for years. We introduced new functionalities while preserving the interaction patterns and terminology operators were already familiar with, updating the visual design with a strong focus on simplicity, clarity, and information readability.

The final validation phase with stakeholders (including managers, end users, developers, and client companies) ultimately confirmed the value delivered by our team. The interface and user experience redesign project was later showcased by ID&A at industry trade fairs.
